Ocean-themed Card

Hello and Happy Friday!  This week has certainly flown by, hasn’t it?  Today, I have a beach-themed card featuring Hero Arts Color Layering Seahorse.  I just love this set and its matching dies; I see alot of beach layouts with this set in the future!

This card was inspired by The Heart Desires Challenge #1.  I used the color palette and sea creatures from the inspiration photo pictured below.

I knew I wanted a watercolor background for my seahorse (obviously!), so I colored a piece of watercolor paper with distress inks.  I die-cut my overlay using Lil’ Inker Designs Stitched Ovals and Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles.  Once my watercolor paper was dry, I adhered my overlay on top, matted it with blue cardstock, and glued it to my side-folding white cardbase.

I die-cut the seahorse and shells from white cardstock and stamped them.  I find it’s easier to line up the stamps onto the die-cut shape rather than die-cutting the stamped shape.  I adhered my stamped images to my card, tucking the starfish into the oval and popping up the seahorse and scallop shell (The seahorse has thicker foam tape to make it stand out more).  The stamp set also has some fabulous water bubbles, which I stamped with white pigment ink.  I didn’t get a very good impression, so I went over the bubbles with a white gel pen.

The beach was cut from tan cardstock using Simon Says Stamp Wavy Scallop Stitches.  I stamped the sentiment with Versafine and heat-embossed it in black before adhering the beach to the card.  I finished off the card with some Pretty Pink Posh clear sequin sparkles and some Zig Wink of Stella on the seahorse.

I’m submitting this card to the Heart Desires Challenge #1 and to My Favorite Things Sketch Challenge 283.

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you have a fantastic weekend!
