Inky Paws Challenge 66: Creating a Custom Sentiment with Masking

Hi there!  I’m back with another baby-themed card for Inky Paws Challenge 66.  I thought this adorable, sleeping fawn from Deer Friend was perfect for a baby card.  I stamped the deer with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored it with colored pencils, using Gamsol and a paper stump for blending.  I cut out the image and set it aside to work on my background.

I created my own patterned paper by repeatedly stamping some of the smaller images from Deer Friend in pale, pink ink onto pink cardstock.  It’s difficult to see in the photos because of the color of ink I chose, but I wanted the pattern to be subtle.  Once I was happy with the background, I die-cut the center with MFT Stamps’ Peek-a-Boo Circle Windows Die-namics.  Before adhering the panel to a white card, I blended on some Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide and flicked on some watered-down Shimmer Spritz.

I adhered that adorable deer to my card with foam tape.  For my sentiment I did some masking and used several different stamp sets to achieve the wording I wanted.  “Congrats” is from Simply Sentimental and was stamped first onto a strip of white cardstock.  I stamped “on your” from the same set next.  For “deer” I masked one of the sentiments from Deer Friend so that only that word was stamped.  The word “one” is from Frozen Fellowship and, again, was obtained by masking a larger sentiment.  Once my sentiment was done, I bannered one end of the strip and distressed the edges to soften the white.  A scattering of matte pink sequins completes the card.
