Inky Paws Challenge 53: For My Friend

Hello, friend!  Today is the start of Inky Paws Challenge 53, and this time it’s a color challenge.  Pink and teal is one of my favorite color combos, so I’m super excited about this challenge.

For my card I pulled out Newton’s Nook Designs’ Cuppa Cactus set.  I’m ashamed to say that while I’ve had this set for a month or so, this was the first time I’ve inked it up.  It’s such a fun set – love the cacti images and the fun sentiments!  I stamped the focal image with Versafine Black Onyx ink and watercolored it with a combination of distress inks and Zigs.  The cactus and pot/mug were colored with Peacock Feathers, Pine Needles, and Black Soot.  The flower was colored with Zigs:  pink, light pink and yellow.

The patterned paper was created by repeatedly stamping the focal image with gray ink.  I filled in some areas with a heart from Newton Loves Coffee.  I die-cut the paper with a wonky stitched die and a stitched circle die to make a frame for my focal image.  I also die-cut a circle from some black cardstock for a mat.  To create a background for my colored image, I ink-blended some Picked Raspberry onto my card and flicked on some water.  I assembled my pieces together, popping up the cactus with foam tape.  The sentiment is from the Lovely Blooms set and was white heat-embossed onto a strip of black cardstock, which I bannered before adhering to my card.  For a little more interest and some shine, I added clear Wink of Stella to my colored image and some teal enamel dots from my stash.

Thank you for stopping by.  You have until August 18th at midnight CST to link up a project for a chance to win a $20 gift certificate to Newton’s Nook Designs.  I can’t wait to see what you create!

This is so cute! I love how you created your own black and white patterned paper and the pop of color in the middle really stands out! Thank you for the Inky Paws challenge inspiration!
