Make a Splash

Hi there!  I recently picked up Neat & Tangled’s Beach Day set from their June release and couldn’t wait to play with it!  For this card I was inspired by Little Tangles Challenge #82:  Masking.

Onto some Xpress-It paper, I stamped the elephant from Beach Day and the whale from Mermazing (The water droplets above the whale are from Beach Day.).  To have the lower half of the whale’s body hidden by the water, I put down some post-it tape before stamping that image.  I then masked the elephant and stamped the rhino before masking him and stamping the sandcastle.  All of the images were stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.

Before I colored my images with Copics, I masked them all to work on my background.  First, I masked off the sky and sand, placed Neat & Tangled’s Rice Paddies stencil over the whale, and ink-blended with Peacock Feathers Distress Ink.  I removed the stencil, leaving the other masks down, and went over the water with more Peacock Feathers.  That second layer darkened the stenciled portion of the water and added some lighter blue in the areas that would have been all white.  I then masked off the water and sky to add in the sand with Tea Dye Distress Ink.  Next, I masked off the water and sand to ink up the sky with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink.  I covered up the sand and sky one more time to add some droplets of watered-down white paint and Shimmer Spritz to the water.  Wooh!  Are you still with me?  I know that’s a LOT of masking and blending, but it was so much fun!

Then it was time for the really fun part – coloring in all of those adorable images!  Once that was done, I die-cut the panel with Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle dies, backed it with craft foam, and matted it with some rainbow plaid paper from Lawn Fawn, which I adhered it to a white card.   I added some details with a white gel pen and some sparkle and shine with clear Zig Wink of Stella to the floaties and ball and some Glossy Accents to the rhino’s mask.  Finally, I heat-embossed a sentiment from Beach Day onto a strip of white cardstock, bannered one end, and popped it up with foam tape onto my card.

Thank you for visiting my little corner of the ‘net.  I hope you have a fabulous day!

I’m linking this card up to the following challenges:  Little Tangles Challenge #82:  Masking, Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge:  Summer Sunshine, Simon Says Stamp Work It Wednesday June 2017, and The Heart Desires Challenge #14.
