Inspired by Starbucks’ Red Cup

Hi, there!  Have you had one of Starbucks’ red cups yet this season?  I haven’t yet (Shocking, I know!), but I made my own.  Check it out.

This was so fun to make!  I started by die-cutting a red cup with SugarPea Designs’ Caffeine Addict dies.  I arranged snowflakes from different stamp sets onto an acrylic block and repeatedly stamped them with white pigment ink onto my cup before heat-embossing them in white.  I inked the edges of my cup and lid, adhered them together, and backed them with foam tape.  The evergreen branches were created with a Martha Stewarts punch and two shades of green cardstock.

For my background I chose some American Crafts’ chalkboard paper because I liked the sheen and texture of it.  I was going for a door decorated for Christmas, and this paper fit the bill perfectly.  I embossed it with Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle dies.  This is such a cool technique and really helps you stretch the usefulness of your dies.  There are plenty of tutorials out there, so I suggest researching what particular items you need for your brand of die-cutting machine.

After embossing my background, I adhered it to my card.  I added my red cup on top and arranged the branches below, tucking the ends underneath the cup’s edge.  I tied a bow with some sheer silver ribbon and added it beneath the cup.  The sentiment is from CTMH’s Scandinavian Wishes, a retired set.  I stamped it in Versafine and heat-embossed it in clear.  I bannered both ends of the sentiment strip, popped up the middle with foam tape, and adhered the ends flat.

I hope I’ve inspired you to try something new with your dies.  As for me, I’m inspired to go grab a much larger “red cup,” if you know what I mean.  😉

Have a great day, and thanks for stopping by!
