Donut Valentine Box by Andrea Shell | Newton's Donut stamp by Newton's Nook Designs

My daughter loves donuts, so I couldn’t resist pulling out the Newton’s Donut set to make a fun treat box for her.  I had the best time making this box for her, and I know she is going to LOVE eating the treat inside it!

I first stamped that adorable image and colored it with Copics.  I don’t have the coordinating dies, so I cut it out with my ScanNCut and used an Xacto knife to cut out that little sliver above the kitty.  I added highlights and details with a white gel pen and coated the frosting with Glossy Accents.  While my image dried, I worked on creating the box.

I knew I wanted to use the Frames Squared Dies to create the window in my box, so I used the dimensions of the scalloped die to come up with my measurements.  The assembled box measures 4 3/4″ x 4 3/4″ x 2″.

For the top I trimmed pink cardstock to a 6″ square.  I stamped images from Puppy Playtime and Newton’s Valentine to create that fun pattern.  Then, I scored the box at 5/8″ on each side.  With my scissors I cut tabs on two parallel sides along the scorelines.  I die-cut the top with the rounded square die from the Frames Squared Dies and backed the opening with clear acetate.  With the rounded and scalloped dies taped together, I die-cut a frame from dark pink cardstock and attached it with liquid adhesive.  Finally, I folded the box along the scorelines and secured the tabs with ScorTape.

To create the bottom of my box, I trimmed dark pink cardstock to 8 5/8″ x 8 5/8″.  I scored the piece at 2″ on each side and cut tabs on two parallel sides.  Again, I folded along the scorelines and secured the tabs with ScorTape.

The only thing left is to decorate the box – and put the treat inside, of course!

I die-cut a white banner with the Frames & Flags Dies and heat-embossed a sentiment from Love and Chocolate (another great set for Valentine’s Day!).  After popping up my colored image with foam tape, I tucked in my banner.  I die-cut a circle from white cardstock with the Frames Squared Dies.  I had a pink, heart-shaped button in my stash that matched perfectly, so I had to use it.  After poking two holes in the circle, I threaded some twine through the circle and button, wrapped the other end of the twine around the box, and secured it with a bow.  To keep the ends of my bow curled, I wrapped them around a pencil and use my heat-tool on low to set the curls.  I placed a small dot of glue on the ends to prevent them from fraying (I tried using a flame to seal the ends, but caught the twine on fire – twice!).  I made sure to leave the twine slightly loose, so it could easily be slipped on and off the box.
